Animal Bites & Rabies Vaccine in Da Lat

Bitten or scratched by a dog, cat or monkey in Vietnam? Wash the wound and get it checked the same day – rabies vaccine available in Da Lat and Duc Trong.

Rabies is present in Vietnam and is almost always fatal once symptoms start – but it is preventable if you are vaccinated promptly after a bite or scratch. Phuong Nam Medical Center provides wound care and rabies vaccination after exposure, with English-speaking doctors who will explain the vaccine schedule and help you plan the remaining doses around your travel.

What to do straight away

  1. Wash the wound immediately with soap and running water for about 15 minutes, then apply an antiseptic if you have one.
  2. Do not close the wound with tape or try to stitch it yourself.
  3. See a doctor as soon as possible – ideally the same day. Do not wait to see whether the animal looks sick.
  4. If you can, note the type of animal, where it happened and whether the animal is owned and can be observed.

When you need to be seen

  • Any bite or scratch that breaks the skin from a dog, cat, monkey, bat or other mammal.
  • An animal licks broken skin or your eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Even if you had rabies vaccines before your trip – you still need booster doses after a bite.

Your visit

  1. Wound assessment and cleaning by the doctor.
  2. Rabies vaccine – the first dose is given on the day. The doctor will assess whether rabies immunoglobulin is also needed and advise you on how to get it if so.
  3. Tetanus vaccination if yours is not up to date, and antibiotics if the wound needs them.
  4. A written schedule for the remaining doses. If you are moving on, keep your records – the remaining doses can be continued at a clinic in your next destination or at home.

Bring your vaccination record if you have one. We accept international credit and debit cards. Medical records and invoices are issued in Vietnamese; our staff will explain them in English.
